Therapy coverage questions, answered
Straight answers about matching, licensure, privacy, cost and the coverage process.
The basics
What is therapy coverage?
A short-term arrangement where a licensed therapist temporarily sees another therapist's clients during leave, vacation or medical absence, protecting continuity of care.
How does Therapy Coverage work?
Submit a request with your dates and practice details. We match you with up to three vetted, licensed therapists in your state. You invite the one you want, and once they accept, you pay $49 to unlock their contact details. We provide coverage contracts, consent templates and ongoing support.
Which therapists can use it?
Licensed clinicians across disciplines in private practice, including LPCCs, LMFTs, LCSWs and psychologists, in solo or group practices.
Planning your leave
What kinds of absences can I get coverage for?
Maternity and parental leave, vacation, sick time, medical leave, sabbaticals, professional development, and any other planned or unexpected time away.
How far in advance should I request coverage?
At least four weeks ahead for planned leave, so introductions and transitions happen calmly. Last-minute requests are supported too.
Will my clients come back to me?
Clients with a clear, planned coverage arrangement are more likely to return, because it avoids the feeling of abandonment.
Ethics & privacy
Is having a substitute therapist ethically required?
Requirements vary by license and state, but every major ethics code (APA, AAMFT, ACA and NASW) addresses planning for continuity of care during absences.
Does Therapy Coverage store client information?
No. We facilitate introductions only; no protected health information is collected or stored. Clinicians coordinate the handoff directly.
Cost
How much does it cost?
$49 one-time to find coverage. Providing coverage is free.
When am I charged?
Only after the covering therapist you invited accepts. You then pay $49 to unlock their contact details. If no one accepts, you're not charged.
Providing coverage
Can I cover clients in other states?
Yes, in any state where you hold a license, including through telehealth.
How do covering therapists get paid?
You bill the clients you see directly, through your own practice and billing platform.
